Last night, the Cortland varsity girls basketball team improved to a 7-1 overall record after a hard fought 46-39 victory over Moravia.

"Tonight was a tough game as the girls have had nine days off since their last game, but they made all the necessary plays to get a big non-league win over a strong program," said Cortland head coach Nolan Sinclair. "The Moravia team is extremely well coached and they play very hard."

By the end of the first half, Cortland would obtain a 10-point lead (23-13) over the Moravia Blue Devils. The Lady Tigers would hold Moravia off to just three points in the second quarter.

Coming into the second half, Moravia would try to get back into the game, but the Lady Tigers would not let up.

"Our girls did an excellent job of running our offense and being patient against the Moravia press," said coach Sinclair.

Senior point guard Shyanne Lewis led the Tigers in scoring with a total of 15 points, to go along with her five rebounds and nine steals. Following Lewis was senior forward Lyndsie Babcock recording a total of 12 points and seven rebounds.

Junior Paige Ludwig was also truly significant for the Tigers, as she came up with two huge offensive rebounds and put backs in the fourth quarter. Ludwig ended the game with seven points and seven rebounds.

"I couldn’t be more proud of the girls' effort tonight and I look forward to our next challenge," stated coach Sinclair. "Next week is big for us as we get into the teeth of our league schedule with games against Auburn and Central Square."

Up next, the Cortland Tigers will be on the road to face Auburn on Monday, January 6th, 2020. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
