A public workshop has been scheduled for Cortland’s Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) Step 2 Nomination Study. The Brownfield Opportunity Area is in the southeast portion of the city.
The public workshop will seek residents’ ideas and input on development and revitalization strategies for the area. The New York State BOA Program is designed to help communities complete revitalization plans and implementation strategies for areas affected by the presence of contaminated and potentially contaminated sites and vacant and abandoned sites, and to complete environmental studies of strategic brownfield sites.
Public engagement is a crucial element of the process to ensure residents and stakeholders are aware of the planning process and that everyone has ample opportunity to weigh in. The workshop has been scheduled as follows:
5:30 p.m., Thursday, January 9th
Port Watson Mini Conference Center
131 Port Watson St., Cortland, NY 13045
This event is free and open to the public and the public is encouraged to attend.
The Pre-Nomination Step 1 study for the Brownfield Opportunity Area was completed in 2012. The Step 2 study carries the analysis in that plan forward and will include economic and market trends analyses, as well as identification and reuse potentials for strategic sites in the BOA that could be catalysts for revitalization.
