Last night, the Marathon varsity boys basketball team defeated Candor (62-55) on the road to extend their winning streak to seven.
Marathon started out scoring on the first possession of the tip and never looked back.
Diego Castellot scored 17 of his 22 points in the first half. Kenyon Depuy then added 10 points of his own in the first half to help give Marathon a 15 point edge going into the third period. DePuy ended the game with a total of 13 points.
Andrew Tillotson closed the night with a 13 point double-double, while Candor was led by its sophomore guard Nick Thomas with 11 points.
Candor switched their defense a few times in the third quarter, but the Olympians shared the basketball and looked for the open shooter.
In the final quarter of the game, Candor would rally, but fall seven points short (62-55) to the Olympians.
“We were up by 21 points in the fourth quarter,” stated Marathon Head Coach Jim Holland. “l decided it would be best to rest the starters in spells. I wanted to get some of the role players an opportunity to play competition. We struggled to defend and play with poise and Candor was able to close some of the gap.”
Up next, the Olympians will host Newfield on Friday, January 10th at 7 p.m.
