Cortland Weather Outlook: Thursday, January 9

Your Finger Lakes Weather forecast for Cortland and the surrounding areas for Thursday, January 9, 2020:

Today will be a much quieter and calmer day as high pressure passes through the region.

Any lingering lake effect flurries early this morning will quickly dissipate as the sun works its way out. Expect sunny to partly cloudy skies into the midday hours before new clouds build in from the west.

These clouds will filter the sunshine, but probably not completely block it out. No rain or snow will fall from them, either.

Winds will be light most of today, starting from the northwest at 3-7 mph, then turning calm before picking back up from the southeast late this afternoon at 5-10 mph.

Temperatures will steadily rise through the teens and into the 20s, peaking in the upper 20s this afternoon. Temperatures may initially dip back into the mid 20s this evening, but then will hold steady or rise overnight.

Here is a look at the weather forecast for the next several days:

Friday: A few scattered rain showers, possibly starting as some ice in the morning and midday. Lows in the upper 20s. Afternoon highs nearing 40.

Saturday: Scattered rain showers. Breezy. Morning lows near 40 degrees. Highs in the mid 50s.

Sunday: Morning rain showers. Some sun late. Windy. Temperatures start in the upper 50s and approach 60 by midday, then drop into the 40s during the afternoon.

Monday: Sunny with just a few passing clouds. Morning lows in the upper 20s. Afternoon highs in the low 40s.
