Cortland Weather Outlook: Friday, January 10

Winter, Snow

Your Finger Lakes Weather forecast for Cortland and the surrounding areas for Friday, January 10, 2020:

Warm air will begin to make a push northward today as a strong low pressure system develops over the middle of the country. However, it will be a struggle for the warm air to win out, though it will eventually.

The result of this duel between cold and warm will be precipitation, some of which will be icy. Areas of freezing rain are expected through the morning, with some areas seeing up to a tenth of an inch of ice.

Needless to say, untreated surfaces and roads will be slick this morning, so use due caution.

By the afternoon, the ice should turn to rain as temperatures inch into the mid and then upper 30s. Rain showers will continue this evening before lifting north as warm air continues to dribble in.

By Saturday morning, temperatures should be into the mid 40s.

Today’s winds will be from the south at 7-12 mph with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Here is a look at the weather forecast for the next several days:

Saturday: Scattered rain showers, especially later in the day. Breezy. Morning lows in the mid 40s. Highs in the mid 50s.
