Cortland Weather Outlook: Sunday, January 12

Your Finger Lakes Weather forecast for Cortland and the surrounding areas for Sunday, January 12, 2020:

Temperatures will return to more seasonable levels by this afternoon thanks to a series of strong cold fronts.

The first front already moved through in the hours after midnight, dropping temperatures from near 60 back into the 50s. The more substantial push of cold air will come later this morning.

Once the second cold front moves through, expect a quick drop through the 40s and into the 30s by lunchtime. The rest of the afternoon will have a slower drop into the mid, then low 30s.

A couple scattered showers will be possible with the passing of the front, and a few stray flurries may fly this afternoon. All in all, though, it will be a relatively dry day.

Winds will continue to howl this morning with gusts over 40 mph from the southwest, then west. As winds continue to turn to the northwest, wind speeds will drop this afternoon.

By this evening, the wind will be nearly calm and skies may clear a bit, though clouds will still pass through from time to time.

Here is a look at the weather forecast for the next several days:

Monday: A mix of sun and clouds. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the mid 40s.

Tuesday: Clouds with a few breaks of sun. A few evening showers possible. Morning lows in the upper 20s. Highs in the mid 40s.

Wednesday: A mix of sun and clouds. Temperatures start in the mid 30s and reach the mid 40s.
