Cortland Weather Outlook: Friday, January 17

Your Finger Lakes Weather forecast for Cortland and the surrounding areas for Friday, January 17, 2020:

Today will be a quiet day between weather systems.

Lake effect clouds, and perhaps a stray flurry, will diminish this morning. By noon, skies should be clearing with sunshine sticking through most of the afternoon.

Some new clouds will start to move in around or after sunset as a deck of thin overcast. Thicker clouds will not move in until after midnight, and no precipitation is expected.

Winds will still be on the blustery side to start, with speeds of 10-15 mph from the northwest through about noon. After noon, the speeds will drop and should become nearly calm by the evening.

It will be a cold day with temperatures failing to reach 20 degrees for most of the county. The southern half of the county should reach the upper teens, while the northern half sticks in the mid teens.

Temperatures will fall back into the single digits for a time this evening before rising back into the teens after midnight.

Saturday: Cloudy with afternoon snow, possibly mixing with rain or sleet in the evening. Several inches possible. Morning lows in the mid teens. Afternoon temperatures in the mid 20s, rising to the 30s in the evening.

Sunday: Windy with snow showers. Temperatures steady in the upper 20s much of the day.

Monday: Scattered snow showers possible. Morning lows near 10. Afternoon highs in the upper teens.

Tuesday: Morning snow showers. Some sun late. Lows in the low teens with highs in the low 20s.
