Cortland Weather Outlook: Wednesday, February 5

Your Finger Lakes Weather forecast for Cortland and the surrounding areas for Wednesday, February 5, 2020:

Today will be a final quiet day this week before more meaningful weather moves in for Thursday and Friday.

A frontal boundary that developed over our region on Tuesday is now well south of the area. The cloud cover this morning will retreat as the front continues to pull away, leaving us with some sunshine.

Late this afternoon, a new batch of clouds will move in as our next weather maker approaches. This system will spread precipitation into the area after midnight, starting as some snow, but then turning to sleet and freezing rain. Thursday morning’s commute, therefore, looks very messy.

Temperatures today will be colder than earlier in the week as the cold air fills in behind the front. Temperatures will not rise much today, reaching the upper 20s for highs.

Winds will be from the north at 7-12 mph this morning, but will drop to under 5 mph during the afternoon.

Here is a look at the weather forecast for the next several days:

Thursday: Snow and ice early on, but then turning to a few scattered rain showers. Lows in the mid 20s. Highs in the upper 30s.

Friday: Another round of morning ice, this time turning to snow for the afternoon. Temperatures start in the low 30s, but spend most of the day in the low 20s.

Saturday: A couple morning flurries. Maybe some late sun. Morning lows in the upper single digits. Afternoon highs near 20.

Sunday: A mix of sun and clouds. Morning lows close to zero, but afternoon highs rebounding to near 30 degrees.
