The weather will have a high impact on Cortland County today as ice turns to snow this morning and continues throughout the day.

A strong low pressure system will pass southeast of the area today, spreading heavy precipitation into our area. As ice turns to snow early this morning, the snow will quickly become heavy.

Snowfall rates throughout the morning could be between 1-3 inches per hour. Lighter snow will fall in the afternoon, but northwest winds gusting over 35 mph will cause near zero visibility and significant drifting.

Total snow amounts for Cortland County should end up in the 8-12 inch range, but a slight shift in the storm track could lead to slightly lower, or greater snow amounts.

Temperatures will hold steady in the 20s until falling into the teens tonight. Snow will end this evening, but winds will continue to be blustery.

Here is a look at the weather forecast for the next several days:

Saturday: A couple morning flurries. Some late sun. Morning lows in the upper single digits. Afternoon highs in the mid teens.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy with a flurry or two early. Snow moves in for the overnight with an inch or two of accumulation. Morning lows just below zero, but afternoon highs rebounding to the low 30s.

Monday: Light snow turns to rain showers early, then ends by the afternoon. Morning lows in the low 30s. Afternoon highs in the upper 30s.

Tuesday: Cloudy with a few rain and snow showers. Morning lows in the upper teens. Afternoon highs in the mid 30s.
