State police roundup includes DWIs, stolen vehicle

State police announced this week a round-up of DWI arrests from January, as well as the arrest of an Endicott man for possessing a stolen vehicle in Willet and a crash in Virgil.

 

Accused: Christian R. Wilson, 23, of Endicott

Charges: Felony, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property; criminal mischief and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, misdemeanor.

Details: Wilson was arrested at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday on Webb Road in Willet for possessing a stolen vehicle, causing reckless damage to property and driving without a license, according to state police.

Legal action: Wilson scheduled to appear in Willet Town Court at a later date.

 

Accused: Paul F. Slowey, 62, of Virgil

Charges: Driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor

Details: Slowey was driving drunk at 8:23 p.m. Jan. 14 on Clute Road in Virgil when he left his lane and struck another vehicle straight-on, according to state police Slowly and the other driver were taken Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, according to police. Further information about their injuries was not available. 

Legal action: Slowey was issued tickets to return at a later date to Virgil Town Court.

 

Accused: Betty L. Brown, 40, of DeRuyter

Charges: Driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor

Details: State police were called at 5:58 p.m. Jan. 15 to the Walmart in Norwich and determined Brown, who had been a passenger, moved to the driver’s seat and started driving erratically through the parking lot when her companion went into the store, leaving the keys in the ignition, according to state police. Brown failed field sobriety tests and was tested as having a blood-alcohol content at more than twice the legal limit, police said. Brown blood was 0.17 percent alcohol, state police noted.

Legal action: Brown was released to a sober third party and is scheduled to appear today in Norwich Town Court.

 

Accused: Jeanel N. Powell, 31, of Binghamton

Charges: Driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor

Details: Powell was driving drunk about 11:30 p.m. Jan. 23 on I-81 southbound in Virgil when he struck a vehicle he was passing and then the snow-covered median, according to state police. Both drivers were unharmed, police said. A trooper administered field sobriety tests on Powell after smelling alcohol on his breath, which Powell failed, state police said. Powell’s blood tested at 0.14 percent alcohol, which is 175 percent of the legal limit, according to police.

Legal action: Powell was processed and released to appear in Virgil Town Court on Feb. 25.

 

Accused: Ravinder Singh, 32, of Cortland

Charges: Felony driving while intoxicated with a previous conviction in 10 years and felony aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle.

Details: Singh was driving drunk at 4:54 a.m. Jan. 12 in Homer, committed several traffic infractions, was pulled over and arrested, according to state police.

Legal action: Singh was released to a sober third party and was scheduled to appear at a later date in Cortlandville Town Court.

 

Accused: Christopher C. Baker, 30, of Cincinnatus

Charges: Charges: Aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor

Details: Baker was arrested after a trooper discovered his car crashed and abandoned about 10:00 p.m. Jan. 2 on Telephone Road in Cincinnatus, according to state police. Baker was discovered at Doran Hill Road in Cincinnatus and arrested, police said. Baker had a blood-alcohol content over twice the legal limit when he was found and arrested — his blood was 0.19 percent alcohol, according to state police.

Legal action: Baker was released to appear at a later date in Cincinnatus Town Court.
