Weekend of Events: What to do in Cortland County?

Here are some of the events happening on this long weekend in Cortland County: 

President’s Day College Experience at Tompkins Cortland Community College

On Monday, February 17th, Tompkins Cortland Community College will be hosting an admissions event for high school students to attend. 

Students will learn more about the college through touring the campus, sitting in classes, and talking to college students. Parents and students will meet in front of Room 101 of the Enrollment Services Center at Tompkins Cortland Community College. 

Monday’s schedule includes: 

  • 8:30-9 am: Check-in for 9 a.m. campus tour OR sit in on a class (meet in front of Room 101 of the Enrollment Services Center)
  • 9-10 am: Campus tour with housing OR sit in on a class, and parent information session with admissions and financial aid
  • 10-11 am: Campus tour with housing OR sit in on a class, and parent information session with admissions and financial aid
  • 11 am-Noon: Optional lunch in the dining hall
  • Noon-1 pm: Parent/student information session with admissions and financial aid in Sprole Conference Room (Room 204)
  • 1-2 pm: Campus tour

Cortland YMCA "Heart of the Community" Benefit Event

The Cortland County YMCA will be holding an evening celebration at the Lynne Parks '68 SUNY Cortland Alumni House on Friday, February 14th in order to raise money for their youth and family programs. 

There will be live music, appetizers, desserts from local restaurants, and a cash bar provided by Homer Hops.

Each ticket includes a free drink coupon. Tickets will be available for day-of pickup at the event (if purchased after February 7th).

Ticket prices include: 

  • $45 for YMCA members
  • $50 for the community

YMCA youth programs include:

  • Swim lessons and swim team
  • Gymnastics lessons and gymnastics team
  • Dance
  • Karate
  • Summer Camp
  • STEM Saturdays
  • Vacation Camp (NEW in 2020)
  • Girls Who Code (NEW in 2020)
  • Y-Go-Round Mobile Youth Programs Trailer (NEW in 2020)

Cortland YWCA Children’s Community Party

Mike Pitman, a young entrepreneur who resides in Cortland County decided to give back to the community with a Children’s Community Party at the local YWCA. 

The event will take place on Sunday, February 16th from 11:30am. - 4pm.  

There will be free food, pool access, a bounce house, and more.

SUNY Cortland Men's and Women's Basketball Games

This weekend, SUNY Cortland's men's and women's basketball teams will each play two games at home.

Both the women’s and men's teams will be facing Potsdam on Friday and Plattsburgh on Saturday. 

The women’s team will play first on both Friday and Saturday with the men’s team to follow. Friday’s games against Potsdam will start at 5:30 pm. and Saturday’s games against Plattsburgh will start at 2 pm. 

All games will be played at Park Center on SUNY Cortland’s campus.

Tompkins Cortland Community College men’s and women's basketball games

On Saturday, February 15th, the Tompkins Cortland Community College men's and women's basketball teams will be playing against Cayuga Community College at home. 

The men’s team will play at noon, and the women’s team will follow at 2pm.

The games will be held at the college’s Athletic Facility.
