Cortland County’s Section III Varsity Basketball Teams to Play Sectional Playoffs

The winter sports regular season recently ended, and many Cortland County basketball teams made it into the Sectional tournament.

There are three Section III schools (Cortland, Homer, and McGraw) and one Section IV school (Marathon) that qualified for Sectionals in Cortland County. Marathon’s sectional seeding has not been released yet. We will have an update on Marathon as soon as their seeding is announced. 

Section III upcoming Sectional schedule:

Cortland Purple Tigers 

Girls Basketball

The girls’ varsity basketball team will be the 4th seed in the Section III Class A playoffs. They ended the regular season with a 13-6 overall record.

The Lady Tigers will host #5 seed Whitesboro in the Quarter-finals on Tuesday, February 25th. The game will start at 6 pm.

 

Homer Trojans: 

Boys Basketball

The boys' basketball team is seeded #14th, after finishing the regular season with a 10-10 record. 

They will host #19 seed Hannibal tonight (February 20th) at 7:30pm for the first round of the Section III Class B tournament. 

Girls Basketball

The #15th seed Lady Trojans will host #18th seed Camden tonight (February 20th) at 6 pm for the first round of the Section III Class B tournament. The winner of this game will face #2nd seed South Jefferson. 

The Lady Trojans finished the regular season with a 10-10 overall record.

 

McGraw Eagles:

Girls Basketball

The #7th seed Lady Eagles will host #10th seed Watertown for the first round of the Section III Class D tournament on Friday, February 21st. The Eagles ended the regular season with a 12-7 record. Tip off starts at 5pm.  

The winner of the game will face off against #2nd seed Hamilton in the Quarter-Finals.  

Boys Basketball

The McGraw boys' basketball team will host #10 seed New York Mills on Friday, February 21st for the first round of the Section III Class D tournament. The game is scheduled to begin at 7pm. 

The Eagles are currently seeded #7th, coming into the postseason with a 14-6 record.
