Police: City man arrested for sexually touching girl

A city man was arrested for sexually touching a girl under the age of 14, the Cortland Police Department announced today.

Jaden A. Bentley, 19, of 3 Elizabeth St., was arrested at 9 a.m. Friday after speaking with officers at the Cortland Police Department, according to today’s news release. Bentley was charged with forcible touching and second-degree sexual abuse, both misdemeanors.

Bentley sexually touched the girl on three occasions between July and August 2016 at a residence on Central Avenue, but the incident was not reported to police until a couple of weeks ago, said Lt. David Guerrera. City police conducted an investigation after the abuse was disclosed to a school official, Guerrera said.

Bentley and the girl were known to each other, he noted.

After an arraignment in City Court, Bentley was remanded without bail to the Cortland County Correctional Facility and is scheduled to reappear on Feb. 28.
