Your Cortland County weather forecast for Wednesday, February 26, 2020:

Today will be a cloudy and dreary day before the weather becomes even more active for tonight.

Scattered rain showers and areas of drizzle will be possible throughout the daytime hours today. None of the precipitation should be very heavy or steady though.

Winds during the daytime will be light, coming from the southeast at 5-10 mph. Temperatures will reach the low 40s during the afternoon.

A strong low pressure system will then track north into the Finger Lakes region. Winds will increase dramatically during the evening with gusts over 40 mph likely.

A band of heavy rain will eventually rotate into the region during the overnight hours. This rain will quickly turn over to snow, with a couple inches possible by Thursday morning, especially over higher elevations.

Temperatures in the evening will stick in the low 40s, but will drop after midnight. By dawn, temperatures should be in the 20s.

Thursday: Morning snow tapers to flurries. Windy. Temperatures slowly fall through the 20s.

Friday: A few scattered snow showers. Still windy. Morning lows in the mid teens. Afternoon highs in the mid 20s.

Saturday: Flurries and squalls increase. Morning lows in the mid teens. Afternoon highs in the low 20s.

Sunday: A few more snow showers, especially during the morning and early afternoon. Morning lows in the mid teens. Afternoon highs in the low 20s.
