Cortland County Public Health Director Holds off Retirement to Facilitate COVID-19 Response

Cortland County Public Health Director Catherine Feuerherm has rescinded her planned retirement effective March 15th, 2020 in order to continue coordinating the Cortland County Health Department’s on-going response to the COVID-19 crisis.

Feuerherm has over thirty years of service with the County serving in several positions before becoming the Public Health Director. Feuerherm announced her retirement last month and was set to complete her tenure with the County on March 16th.

Feuerherm says, “While I look forward to retirement, I feel a responsibility to the department and to our community to help guide us through this unprecedented public health event. I have prepared for this through my entire career and want to use my expertise to keep the residents of this County safe.”

County Administrator Robert Corpora expressed his gratitude with Feuerherm’s decision and announcement, “Cathy has critical experience that we need during our response to this on-going situation, I am appreciative that she has agreed to stay on as the County Public Health Director.”

Feuerherm is coordinating the County Health Department response and is in regular consultation with State and Federal resources as well as community health providers regarding the latest developments.
