Cortland Weather Outlook: Monday, April 13

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Monday, April 13, 2020:

Today will be a windy and possibly stormy day as a strong cold front associated with a powerful low pressure system moves through.

Already, rain has been falling and will continue this morning before tapering off to more scattered showers. A few thunderstorms will start to develop during the midday and afternoon hours. The best chance for thunderstorms will be between noon and 5 PM.

If the rain breaks up enough this morning and temperatures can warm, a few thunderstorms this afternoon could be strong. While they would not have much lightning, strong winds would be possible.

Even outside of any thunderstorms, the winds will be strong. Expect wind speeds of 20-25 mph with gusts over 50 mph. Some of the hilltops in the northern part of the county could gust to 60 mph.

Temperatures will be mild, thanks to the gusty south winds, topping out in the low 60s. If the rain ends sooner and a little sun works out, mid or upper 60s would be possible.

Late in the afternoon, winds will turn to the west. Cold air will start to move in by sunset with a quick drop back into the 40s.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Tuesday: Sunshine and thin clouds. Morning lows in the mid 30s. Afternoon highs in the mid 40s.

Wednesday: A mix of clouds and some sun. A few flurries. Morning lows in the upper 20s. Afternoon highs in the low 40s.

Thursday: Mostly cloudy with snow showers. Morning lows in the upper 20s. Afternoon highs in the low 40s.
