Your Cortland County weather forecast for Thursday, May 14, 2020:

High pressure will depart today, leaving our region open for warmer temperatures and some late rain.

Sunny skies this morning will gradually fill with thicker clouds. By the afternoon, skies should be mostly cloudy.

Rain will arrive during the second half of the afternoon and may fall steadily for a couple hours. The rain should remain light through sunset.

After sunset, the rain will become heavier with embedded thundery downpours. These will continue throughout the night. Some areas could see over a half-inch of rain by dawn Friday.

Winds will be from the south at 5-10 mph ahead of the incoming weather system. Top gusts will be near 30 mph.

Temperatures will get a nice boost to near-average levels, despite the incoming clouds and rain. Look for highs in the low 60s early this afternoon. Evening temperatures will remain in the 50s.

Monday: On and off showers. Maybe a thunderstorm. Morning lows in the mid 40s. Afternoon highs near 60.
