This is a press release from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office.

On June 4th, 2020 at approximately around 6:20 PM Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a 1999 Dodge Ram pick-up truck on Creal Road, in the Town of Homer, being operated by a male later identified as 25 year-old Kyle Dayton.

Mr. Dayton failed to comply with police and sped away onto Route 41 going north, passing vehicles in an attempt to elude police. He lost control of the vehicle attempting to turn onto Houghton Hill Road, in the Town of Homer, but struck an earth embankment at the intersection with Route 41. Mr. Dayton exited the vehicle and ran from the scene leaving Jastinee Catalano, age 21, uninjured and behind in the vehicle. With the assistance of a NYSP K-9 unit, Mr. Dayton was located at a nearby farm, in a barn, and was taken into custody. He was transported to Guthrie Medical Center, by TLC Ambulance, to be treated for a lower leg injury.

Dayton and Catalano were arrested, processed, and released. Both are due to appear in the Town of Homer Court on June 16th, 2020 at 4:00 PM. Cortland City Police and The New York State Police assisted with the search.
