The capacity allowed for houses of worship has been increased

Cortland County Legislative Chairman Paul Heider.

The Capacity allowed for houses of worship has been increased to at least 25 percent capacity.

Cortland County Legislative Chairman Paul Heider played a role in getting this to happen, and he shared this short release with us:

There has been a daily battle for the past 3 weeks on our CNY Regional NY Forward calls pertaining to opening up our Houses of Worship with at least 25 % capacity. The Governor's team when asked the question "Is there any scientific evidence that having 25% capacity in Houses of Worship has caused a spike in Covid?" the answer was ultimately no. Armed with that information our Regional partners, Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon, Madison County Chair John Becker, Oswego County Chair James Weatherup, Cayuga County Chair Aileen McNabe-Coleman and myself decided to move forward late yesterday to allow them to open using our discretion. While preparing our press release we all got a phone call from a Representative of the Governor's office and were told we would have the guidance and approval we needed today. We were asked to wait one more day ........................... Our Houses of Worship will be allowed to open at the least by tomorrow. We expect the guidelines today and a possible announcement at the Governor's press conference today.
