Cortland Weather Outlook: Wednesday, July 8

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Wednesday, July 8, 2020:

A hot and humid day will end with a few thunderstorms thanks to a small wind-shift boundary moving through the area.

Sunshine this morning will give way to growing fair-weather clouds during the late morning and afternoon hours. As the wind shift approaches late in the afternoon, showers and storms will flare up.

The best chance for rain will come around and after 5 PM. Thunderstorms will form a broken line to the north, then press south. Most of Cortland County should see at least some rain, if not thunder.

There will be a small potential for some hail or gusty winds with a few of the more robust cells within this line, but widespread, significant severe weather is not expected.

Before the storms, high temperatures will be in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees. Temperatures will fall into the 70s this evening. Some areas of fog may be possible, especially where any thundery downpours happen earlier.

Winds will be from the south at 5-10 mph ahead of the boundary, but will turn northwesterly, but nearly calm this evening as the boundary clears the area.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Thursday: Partly cloudy. Morning lows in the upper 60s. Afternoon highs near 90.

Friday: Partly cloudy. Morning lows in the upper 60s. Afternoon highs in the low 90s.

Saturday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Morning lows in the mid 60s. Afternoon highs near 90.

Sunday: Showers and thunderstorms. Morning lows in the near 70. Afternoon highs near 80.
