Congressman Anthony Brindisi recently announced more than $71,000 in grant funding will be given to  three fire departments across New York’s 22nd Congressional District, including the City of Cortland. The funding was secured through the bipartisan CARES Act earlier this year.

According to Brindisi's office, the City of Cortland Fire Department will receive over $65,000 in grant funding. The other two recipients in the NY 22nd Congressional District were the City of Norwich Fire Department (over $2,000) and the Chenango Fire Company Inc (over $3,000).

This grant money will help fire departments acquire personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as other related supplies to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our firefighters have continued their essential work throughout this pandemic and have protected our communities and we thank them for their service,” Brindisi stated on his recent press release. “When our firefighters and first responders have the tools to protect themselves, they can continue to do their vital work and keep our communities safe. I’m working every day to deliver additional aid to our essential workers and first responders, and I will keep advocating for relief for Upstate New Yorkers.”
