Cortland Weather Outlook: Thursday, July 16

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Thursday, July 16, 2020:

A disturbance in the atmosphere will approach the region late in the day.

Clouds out ahead of this disturbance will filter the sunshine this morning before thickening up further this afternoon.

The biggest question will be how the rain associated with this system evolves. Showers will become possible in the afternoon and some thunderstorms may rumble through this evening.

The extent of the rain this afternoon will have an influence on the strength of any storms tonight. Less rain would likely allow stronger storms, but widespread severe weather is not anticipated in either scenario.

Temperatures will be held in check by the clouds and potential rain. Look for highs in the neighborhood of 80 degrees. Evening temperatures will stay in the 70s before slipping into the 60s overnight.

Today’s winds be blustery from the south at 10-15 mph. Peak gusts will be 30-35 mph.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Friday: A few scattered showers or storms, mostly early. Some sun otherwise. Morning lows in the mid 60s. Afternoon highs in the low 80s.
