CPD: Groton man arrested following early morning shooting incident

Press release from the Cortland City Police Department.

On 07/25/2020 at about 7PM, Robert S. Bailey (39) of 7 Short Road Groton, NY, was taken into custody without incident during a traffic stop in the Village of Groton.

The on-going investigation into Saturday's early morning shooting on Church Street ultimately led city police to Bailey. The weapon used in the attack was not recovered when Bailey was arrested.

The 18 year old victim remains in stable condition at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. Cortland city officers were assisted during this investigation by the Cortland County Sheriffs, New York State Police, SUNY Cortland Police, Tompkins County Sheriff's Office and the Village of Groton Police Department.

Bailey was charged with;

  • Assault 1st (F)
  • Reckless Endangerment 1st (F)
  • Criminal possession of a weapon 2nd (F)
  • Criminal possession of a weapon 3rd (F)
  • Prohibited use of a weapon (M)

Bailey is currently being held at CPD pending arraignment in the morning.
