Press release from the Cortland City Police Department.

On 07/30/2020 at about 3 PM, City investigators arrested William Tompkins (21) of 101 Pendleton Street Cortland. Tompkins's arrest came following a thorough investigation into the July 28, 2020 stabbing that occurred on Port Watson Street.

As investigators tried to determine his possible whereabouts, they received word that Tompkins had been arrested in Tompkins County, just a day after arriving there, for his actions during a domestic dispute in the Town of Newfield. City police investigators went to the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office and transported Tompkins back to Cortland.

Tompkins was charged with;

  • Assault 2nd (F)
  • Criminal possession of a weapon 4th (M)

Tompkins is currently held at CPD awaiting arraignment.
