State Troopers Respond to Serious Crash on I-81 in Cortland County

On August 5, 2020 at approximately 9:40 p.m., New York State Police at Homer responded to a serious crash involving two vehicles on Interstate 81 (north) near exit 13 in the town of Preble.

A Chevy Colorado with two occupants was traveling north when it was rear ended by a Hyundai Elantra with one female occupant.  When the Chevy Colorado was rear ended, it went into the grass and struck the exit 13 sign and a guiderail.  The Hyundai Elantra entered the grass and struck the exit 13 sign and continued into the grass.  The operator of the Hyundai Elantra (a female) was ejected from the Hyundai Elantra during the impact of the crash.

The female driver of the Hyundai Elantra was transported by helicopter to SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse where she is listed in serious condition.  The occupants of the Chevy Colorado were not injured.

The investigation is on-going.
