Cortland Weather Outlook: Thursday, October 15

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Thursday, October 15, 2020:

The weather today will be a bit on the wild side thanks to a strong cold front that will move through late in the day.

Temperatures have already been rising overnight as south winds increase ahead of the front. The wind will continue to increase this morning, with speeds of 10-15 mph and gusts of 35-40 mph.

Not only will the wind bring in warmer air, but bright, sun-filled skies will help push temperatures upward. Look for highs this afternoon to peak in the low 70s.

Everything changes in the late afternoon with the arrival of the front.

First, clouds will suddenly increase. Then, winds will turn to the northwest, and after a brief gust, decrease substantially. Temperatures will start to tumble, dropping into the low and mid 50s within a matter of about two hours.

There could be a couple showers along the front, but most of the rain will hold off until the evening. Showers will continue through the night, with temperatures falling back into the upper 40s.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Friday: A few morning showers, then cloudy until some breaks of sun late. Morning lows in the upper 40s. Afternoon highs near 50.

Saturday: Sunny with a few clouds. Morning lows in the mid 30s. Afternoon highs in the low 50s.

Sunday: Partly cloudy. Breezy. Possibly a late shower. Morning lows in the mid 30s. Afternoon highs in the upper 50s.

Monday: Mostly cloudy. Perhaps some showers. Morning lows in the mid 40s. Afternoon highs in the upper 50s.
