Cortland Weather Outlook: Tuesday, October 20

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Tuesday, October 20, 2020:

The front that brought yesterday’s rain will slowly press through the area today, only to move back north tonight.

The best chance for rain today will be through the morning hours. Scattered showers and a few batches of steadier rain will gradually dissipate as the morning goes into the midday.

A few stray showers may linger into the afternoon, but these will be light, brief, and few and far between. Skies will remain cloudy, though.

Scattered showers will increase some this evening, but the rain will still not be as widespread as it will be this morning.

Winds will turn to the northwest this morning as the front moves into the area with speeds of 10 mph. By the afternoon, wind speeds will be down to 5 mph and the wind direction will be more northerly.

The wind will turn to the east this evening and the southeast overnight. After midnight wind speeds will go back up to near 10 mph.

Temperatures will not follow a normal pattern today thanks to these wind shifts along the front. After spending most of the night well in the 50s, morning temperatures will fall back to near 50 degrees. Afternoon temperatures will then creep back into the low to mid 50s.

After an initial drop back to near 50 this evening, temperatures will rise once again, reaching the mid 50s by dawn Wednesday.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Wednesday: A shower early, showers and storms late, but some sun in between. Morning lows in the mid 50s. Afternoon highs in the low 70s.
