Cortland Weather Outlook: Monday, November 2

snow, winter

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Monday, November 2, 2020:

Lake effect snow this morning will taper off, but another period of snow will move through this afternoon.

Cold northwest winds are feeding the snow this morning, but winds will begin to shift to the west over Lake Ontario later this morning, interrupting the snow and ending it temporarily for our area.

This shift will be out ahead of a small impulse of energy that will move in later this afternoon. This energy will pick up the snow band off Lake Erie and bring it eastward.

Light to moderate snow will fall for several hours late this afternoon and early this evening before it, too, tapers off. The rest of the night should be quiet until lake effect snow, possibly mixing with rain, moves back in near dawn Tuesday.

Another inch or so may fall this morning, especially over higher elevations and in the more persistent snows. This afternoon’s snow should have little to no accumulation, with little to no accumulation prior to dawn Tuesday.

Winds will gust over 40 mph this morning and into the early afternoon before dropping to 25-35 mph gusts for the late afternoon. More wind gusts over 30 mph are possible overnight, mostly after midnight.

High temperatures during the afternoon will be in the mid 30s, but temperatures should rise to the upper 30s tonight.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Tuesday: Flurries or showers early, then maybe some afternoon sun. Morning lows in the upper 30s. Afternoon highs near 40.

Wednesday: Sunny and much warmer. Morning lows near 30. Afternoon highs in the upper 50s.

Thursday: Sunshine filtered through thin clouds. Morning lows in the low 40s. Afternoon highs in the low 60s.
