Cortland County Reports its First COVID Related Fatality 

Cortland NY- the Cortland County Health Department confirms the death of a Cortland County resident to COVID 19. The death occurred on November 2nd and involved a male in his 60s with underlying health conditions who had  been hospitalized for treatment. Additional details about the individual’s death will not be disclosed. 

“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to this gentleman’s family and friends,” said Lisa Perfetti Interim Public  Health Director. “This serves as a very unfortunate reminder to the community about the need for each of us to do  our part to protect our most vulnerable neighbors. We continue to stress the importance of avoiding gatherings,  wearing masks, social distancing, and staying home when ill.” 

Cortland County Legislative Chairman Paul Heider acknowledged the passing, “Today we lost a friend and  neighbor, my heartfelt condolences go out to this gentlemen’s family.” “This death is unfortunate, let it serve to  strengthen our resolve to fight this virus by adhering to best practices and starving the virus of any more potential  victims.
