Cortland Weather Outlook: Wednesday, December 9

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Wednesday, December 9, 2020:

A weak low pressure system will track across Ontario, Canada and into northern New York today, bringing unsettled conditions back into the area.

Temperatures have come up slightly overnight, but it will remain cold enough for the precipitation fall as snow today.

Snow showers will be on and off this morning as the system passes by, and then a bit steadier late in this afternoon and tonight as lake effect kicks in behind.

High temperatures today will be near or just above the freezing mark, so any accumulations should be slushy and light. The best chance for an inch or more will be over higher elevations.

Temperatures will remain steady overnight with little to no change in the lake effect.

Winds will be from the southwest at around 10 mph through the morning and early afternoon. By mid afternoon, wind speeds will drop closer to 5 mph and turn to the west. As winds continuing turning to the northwest, speeds will come back up to around 10 mph once again.

Thursday: Morning clouds and perhaps a flurry. Then, some late sun. Morning lows in the low 30s. Afternoon highs in the upper 30s.

Friday: Sunshine filtered through thin clouds. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the mid 40s.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy. Maybe a rain shower. Morning lows in the low 30s. Afternoon highs in the low 40s.

Sunday: Breezy with rain showers. Morning lows in the mid 30s. Afternoon highs in the mid 40s.
