Cortland Weather Outlook: Thursday, December 10

snow, winter

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Thursday, December 10, 2020:

High pressure will build in from the southwest today, ending any lingering lake effect precipitation and eventually leading to some sunshine.

A few snow showers will continue to be possible this morning as northwest winds continue. The snow will be spotty and should not amount to more than a light coating.

Wind speeds through the morning will be 5-10 mph, but during the afternoon, winds will turn to the west and speeds will fall under 5 mph.

This will cut off the flow of moisture from Lake Ontario, ending the lake effect and bringing in some sunshine before the day is done.

High temperatures this afternoon will be in the upper 30s, though a few places could hit 40 degrees if the sun comes out quick enough.

Tonight, skies will be clear until some thin clouds arrive after midnight. Evening temperatures will drop into the upper 20s, but increasing south winds behind the high pressure system will cause temperatures to creep back toward 30 overnight.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Friday: Sunshine filtered through thin clouds. Morning lows around 30. Afternoon highs in the upper 40s.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy with a few rain showers. Morning lows in the low 30s. Afternoon highs in the mid 40s.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy with a few rain showers. Morning lows in the low 40s. Afternoon highs in the low 50s.
