The Marathon girls basketball team will be holding a fundraiser on January 7th. The fundraiser will go as follows:
During the event every athlete will shoot 100 free throws. We are looking for sponsors for each MADE free throw. You can PLEDGE anything from .25 cents to 10 dollars per basket made or make a one-time DONATION. Please help us reach our goal! (taken from their fundraiser website).
We spoke with Pierce about his players, and he had nothing but praise for his team leaders. “Brooke and Madison have been our leaders on and off the court for the past several seasons. We usually use our fundraiser money to get some extra things and go on field trips, but this year we want to use some of the money raised to give back to the community. When I mentioned it to Brooke(Tillotson) and Madison(Clark), they thought that the idea was great. We spoke of doing a drive-in movie that’s socially distanced".
Pierce continued, "They want to put on socially distanced events in the future to raise funds for their basketball program, and they’d like to host them in the Marathon community."

They just want to play....
Due to COVID-19, the start date for girls basketball has been delayed a few times with some wondering whether a season will happen or not. Coach Pierce has kept his players spirits high, and it's contagious.
When we asked junior co-captain Brooke Tillotson what two things she's learned from senior co-captain Madison Clark, Tillotson mentioned how to be resilient and life skills both on and off the court. Clark and Tillotson have been teammates for four years.
It really hits home for Clark, because she is a senior. Madison is hoping that the community supports the team and their efforts with this fundraiser. Even if there is no season, she wants better for teams that will come after she graduates.
