Cortland County to Offer Free COVID-19 Tests Next Week for County Employees & Residents

January 14, 2021 Ithaca, New York –– Cayuga Health and Cortland County officials announced today that Cayuga Health’s COVID-19 testing site at the Gutchess Sports Complex will be expanded to include free testing for asymptomatic Cortland county residents and County employees.

Beginning January 18th , individuals who are not symptomatic and/or are unaware of any exposure to the coronavirus will be able to get tested at Cayuga Health Sampling Site in Cortlandville at no cost. Funding for this public testing campaign was recently approved by the Cortland County Legislature.

“We are pleased to be able to partner with Cayuga Health to offer this no cost testing event to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our county,” Robert Corpora, Cortland County Administrator. “The CDC recommends testing to diagnose acute infection of both symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals, to guide contact tracing, treatment options, and isolation requirements."

“We know that some individuals carrying the COVID-19 infection may be asymptomatic," states Dr. Martin Stallone, President & CEO of Cayuga Health. "Increased testing has been proven to slow the spread of COVID-19 to identify those with the infection that may not be showing symptoms.  I want to thank Robert Corpora and Cortland County for teaming up with us. We are committed to reducing the spread of COVID-19 in our communities and our entire region.”

Testing will be performed at the recently opened Cayuga Health Sampling Site located in Gutchess Park. This site is currently open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday - Friday and will begin to offer this no cost testing during the week of January 18, 2021. The site schedule, and hours of operation, will be determined on a weekly basis.

Individuals seeking a test at the Cayuga Health Sampling Site at Cortland will need to pre-register for an appointment. On-line registration is available at www.cayugahealth.org.  For patients who may not have access to the internet, need assistance registering, or have questions, please call 607-319-5708.

The testing location performs both swab and saliva testing. If an individual is registered for a saliva test, they cannot have any tobacco products or anything to eat or drink for at least 30 minutes prior to their appointment.
