Cortland Weather Outlook: Saturday, January 30

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Saturday, January 30, 2021:

High pressure will build in today, keeping temperatures cold but gradually turning off the lake effect machine.

For this morning though, snow showers will continue as cold northwest winds blow over the lakes. The snow will be fine and powdery, like the last few days, accumulating around an inch or two.

The snow will diminish through the morning and should mostly end during the midday hours. An afternoon flurry cannot totally be ruled out, but they will eventually disappear altogether.

Some breaks of sunshine will be possible between flurries and in the afternoon, but it probably will not become completely clear.

Northwest winds will blow at around 10 mph today with gusts around 20 mph. Tonight, winds will turn to the north-northeast and drop to around 5 mph.

Temperatures will work their way into the mid teens today, though a few of the hills in the northern part of the county may stick closer to the low teens.

Partly cloudy skies this evening will send temperatures into the single digits early. By midnight, temperatures will start to flirt with zero and should end between -5 and -10, possibly with colder pockets, by dawn Sunday.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Sunday: Sunshine filtered through thin overcast. Morning lows of -5 to -10. Afternoon highs in the low 20s.

Monday: A fair amount of sun with snow staying south. Morning lows around 5. Afternoon highs in the mid and upper 20s.

Tuesday: A mix of sun and clouds. Morning lows around 10. Afternoon highs in the low 20s.

Wednesday: Sunny. Morning lows in the mid 10s. Afternoon highs in the mid 20s.
