Cortland Weather Outlook: Thursday, February 11

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Thursday, February 11, 2021:

A disturbance in the jet stream passed to our south overnight as high pressure over the Great Lakes prevented it from coming any further north.

A northwest wind will set up between these pressure systems, gradually increasing in speed through the day. Wind speeds this morning will be near or under 5 mph, while this afternoon’s winds will be closer to 10 mph.

A few lake effect flurries will be possible, but conditions aren’t primed for lake snow. Little to no accumulation is expected, and most of the day should be dry.

The sun will poke in and out of the lake effect clouds and should be most plentiful late in the day.

High temperatures will be in the low to perhaps mid 20s this afternoon.

Tonight, winds will turn to the northeast, removing the lake influences from our region. Skies should become even less cloudy and temperatures will easily fall back into the single digits.

A new area of clouds associated with a dissipating disturbance will move in toward dawn Friday, but with no precipitation expected.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Friday: More sun than clouds. Morning lows in the low 0s. Afternoon highs in the upper 10s.

Saturday: Increasing clouds. Snow developing after sunset. Morning lows between 0 and -5. Afternoon highs near 20.

Sunday: Snow ends early. Total accumulations of 2-4 inches. Then, cloudy the rest of the day. Morning lows in the upper 10s. Afternoon highs in the upper 20s.

Monday: Sunny with a few clouds, especially late. Morning lows in the mid 0s. Afternoon highs in the upper 10s.
