Last night, the Cincinnatus boys basketball team defeated County and Class rival McGraw on the road with a score of 51-42.
It was a close first half with the Cincinnatus Lions getting away with a one point lead (17-16) at the end of the second quarter.
In the third quarter, the Lions stepped up defensively and started to move the ball better. The Lions outscored the McGraw Eagles 13-6 in the quarter.
According to Cincinnatus Head Coach James Halstrom, stepping up defensively gave Cincinnatus more confidence to push the ball in transition.
“We did a better job moving offensively, particularly in the second half and that allowed us better opportunities to get good shots,” said Coach Halstrom.
The final quarter was a back and forth affair, with both teams scoring 20+ points in the quarter. However, the Lions would hold on to their lead to take the win.
The Lions were led by junior Scott Schuyler with 15 points. Following Schuyler were Cason Stafford with 14 points and Tyler Liddle with nine points.
The McGraw Eagles were led by Zach Lamarre with 12 points, Quentin Burdick with nine points, and Caleb Smith with eight points.
Up next, Cincinnatus will host Otselic Valley on Thursday, February 25th at 6pm. McGraw hits the road as they take on Homer today (February 24th) at 7pm.
