McGraw’s girls basketball defense stands out in win over DeRuyter

The McGraw Girls Varsity team improves their record (3-0) on the season after a 48-32 win against DeRuyter at home.

The McGraw Eagles had a hot start with them creating turnovers and outscoring DeRuyter 14-4 in the first quarter. They obtained a 24-14 lead at the end of the half.

“Our goal in this game was to come out and score quickly and pressure the ball to create an edge for our defense,” said McGraw Head Coach Corey Wilson. “I thought we did an excellent job creating turnovers and really capitalizing on DeRuyter's mistakes. I give DeRuyter a lot of credit, because they never gave up throughout the game.”

The second half was more of the same, with McGraw generating a lot of points in transition to take the win.

McGraw ended the game with a team total of 22 rebounds, 9 steals, and 6 blocks last night.

The Eagles were led by Elyssa Fish with 14 points on the night. Following Fish were Karissa Wilbur with 13 points and Alexis Stiles with 10 points.

McGraw will look to maintain their undefeated record, as they take on Otselic Valley on the road this upcoming Monday (March 1st) at 6pm.
