Your Cortland County weather forecast for Tuesday, March 2, 2021:

After some lingering lake effect this morning, skies should trend sunnier.

Lake effect snow showers will gradually lift northward this morning, moving through Cortland County before dissipating. The snow may come down steadily for a time, but accumulations should be limited to an inch or so.

The best chance for snow will be before 10 AM. After that, a gradual transition to sunny skies should take place through the midday and early afternoon hours.

The latter half of the afternoon should be mostly sunny, with clear skies continuing into the nighttime hours.

Winds will still be a bit blustery this morning, coming from the northwest at 10-15 mph with gusts to 35 mph. During the afternoon, winds speeds will drop at around 5 mph and the wind direction will turn to the west.

Shifting winds will continue this evening as they turn to the southwest and increase to 5-10 mph.

High temperatures today will only make it to the low 20s. A quick drop to the low teens should be expected this evening, but then the southwest winds will bring temperatures back up close to 20 by dawn Wednesday.

Thursday: Morning clouds and a few flurries. Afternoon sun. Morning lows in the low 20s. Afternoon highs in the mid 20s.

Friday: Sun and clouds. Morning lows in the low 10s. Afternoon highs in the upper 20s.

Saturday: More sun than clouds. Morning lows in the low 10s. Afternoon highs in the upper 20s.
