Cortland County High School Basketball Game Recaps (March 4th)

Here are some local varsity basketball recaps from Thursday's games:

McGraw boys basketball vs. Cincinnatus

The McGraw Golden Eagles defeated the Cincinnatus Lions 53-33 on the road Thursday night.

With the Eagles having a 21-17 advantage by the end of the half, they went on to turn up both their defensive and offensive intensity even more in the second half to beat the Lions. 

Caleb Smith led McGraw with 19 points on the night, while Zach Lamarre scored 12 points. 

Cincinnatus was led by Scott Schuyler (11 points) and Cason Stafford (7 points). 

Up next, McGraw will host Otselic Valley on Monday, March 8th at 6pm. Cincinnatus will take on Madison on the road this Saturday, March 6th at 11am. 

Homer girls basketball vs. Marcellus

The Homer Lady Trojans fell to Marcellus 73-46 at home. 

It was a well fought first half, with Homer only being down 20-30 at the end of the second quarter. However Marcellus took over after the break, with them outscoring Homer 49-25 in the second half of the game. 

“For a young team like us, we graduate one senior this year, it is a blessing to get to play a team with a caliber like this,” said Homer Head Coach CJ Kudla. “Each experience is a learning experience for next year and seasons to come. I'm proud of the effort of our girls. Marcellus is just a top tier team who has been doing it longer than us. Great job to them."

Homer was led by Gracie Patriarco with 16 points and Katlyn Sovocool with 11 points 

The Lady Trojans are now looking forward to playing against Chittenango on the road this upcoming Tuesday, March 9th at 5:30pm. 

Marathon girls basketball vs. Union Springs

The Marathon Lady Olympians fell 45-59 on the road against the Union Springs Wolves. 

The Wolves came in with the hot hand in the opening quarter, scoring 19 points. By the end of the half, Marathon was down 20-32. 

Union Springs kept battling Marathon in the second half to take the win.

The Lady Olympians were led by Brooke Tillotson with 18 points and Abby Ensign with 17 points. 

Marathon will look forward to getting back on their winning ways as they take on Cortland on the road today (March 5th) at 6:30pm. 

Marathon boys basketball vs. Union Springs

The Marathon Olympians lost a close 42-51 game against Union Springs. 

According to Marathon Coach Jim Holland, the Olympians struggled shooting last night going 4 for 20 from beyond the arc. 

The Olympians were led by Conor Holland with 15 points and Nate Walker with 13 points. 

The Union Springs Wolves were led by Jose Reyes with 26 points and Damon Brown with 8 points. 

Up next, the Olympians will take on DeRuyter at home on Saturday, March 6th at 3:30pm.

The Cortland Purple Tigers defeated Norwich with a score of 59-48. 

The Purple Tigers were led by a 30 point outburst from senior Noah Armstrong. Following Armstrong were Max Gambitta with 9 points and Jaden Fitch with 8 points. 

Norwich was led by Keegan Franklin with 11 points and Elijah Craddock with 9 points. 

The Purple Tigers are now looking forward to avenging their season opening game loss to ESM (East Syracuse Minoa), as they host the Spartans this Saturday, March 6th. Tip off is at noon.
