Your Cortland County weather forecast for Thursday, March 18, 2021:

A chilly early Spring rain will fall across the area today, ending with a little snow mixing in.

Rain will overspread the region this morning and continue steadily for most of the day. The rain will generally be light to moderate in intensity. No flooding is expected.

Late in the afternoon or early this evening, the rain should start to mix with and turn to snow before coming to an end. In all, it should snow for no more than an hour or two.

Higher elevations could see an inch of slushy snow, while lower elevations see just a coating. The precipitation should end by 9 or 10 PM.

Light southeast winds this morning will turn to the northeast this afternoon. A further turn to the north is expected this evening, at which time the wind speeds will pick up.

The strongest winds will be after the precipitation ends, with speeds of 10-15 mph and gusts around 30 mph.

Temperatures will peak during the midday hours with highs around 40. A slow drop through the 30s will take place during the afternoon and evening, with 20s and eventually teens taking cold after midnight.

Monday: More sun than clouds. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs near 60.
