Cortland County High School Sports Game Recaps (March 24th)

Here are some local high school varsity game recaps from Wednesday’s games:

Mcgraw Varsity Girls Soccer vs. Madison

The McGraw girls soccer player in a windy game on the road against Madison, beating them 3-0. 

It was a scoreless first half, but the McGraw Eagles were able to get off to a great second half with Bayley Meade scoring the first goal of the game with over 32 minutes left. Meade went on to make it 2-0 with an assist from Lexi Stiles. Stiles scored again, making it 3-0 with about 5 minutes left. 

McGraw ended the game with 27 shots and 2 saves by goalkeeper Andrea May. Madison had 3 shots and 10 saves by goalkeeper Lydia Pisiak. 

McGraw Varsity Boys Soccer vs. Madison

The Mcgraw boys soccer team won a close game at home against Madison with a score of 2-1. 

Madison struck first with a long range goal against the McGraw Eagles. However, the Eagles answered back with Jackson Card scoring a goal to make it 1-1 before the half. The Eagles were able to get the 2-1 win with Card scoring off a counter attack. 

McGraw had a total of 23 shots and 7 saves for Nolan Knickerbocker in the game. Madison had 13 shots and 12 saves. 

Cincinnatus Varsity Girls Soccer vs. Stockbridge Valley

The Cincinnatus Lions defeated Stockbridge Valley 4-2 on the road. 

The Lions were dominant with 27 shots vs 8 shots from Stockbridge Valley.

Kyla Sustad ended the game with 2 goals and 2 assists. Deslinn Rutan had 1 goal and  2 assists, while Ariahna Metzler scored 1 goal.

Cincinnatus Varsity Boys Soccer vs. Stockbridge Valley

The Cincinnatus Lions boys soccer team beat Stockbridge Valley 4-0 at home. 

The Lions were able to get a 1-0 lead before the half. After the half, their offense was more effective and they were able to get the win. 

Cason Stafford ended the game with a hat-trick (3 goals), while Jordan Larrabee scored 1 goal. Scott Schuyler contributed with 2 assists, and Trent Streicher added 1 assist. 

Cincinnatus had a total of 16 shots and 1 save from Kooper Vosberg, while Stockbridge Valley ended the game with a total of 3 shots and 7 saves from Wyatt Reed. 

Marathon Varsity Girls Soccer vs. Union Springs

The Marathon Olympians won 3-2 against Union Springs on the road. Marathon was able to get a head start with Brooke Tillotson scoring the first goal of the game with about 9 minutes left in the first half to make it 1-0 before halftime. She was assisted by Paige Hurlburt. 

Tillotson went on to score her second goal of the game with 29 minutes left in the second half, again assisted by Paige Hurlburt. 

However, Union Springs answered with back two back goals of their own scored by Tatum Haight and Gabrielle Scholz to make it 2-2. 

The Olympians were able to seal the game with about 10 minutes left, when Carissa VanDee capitalized off a short indirect kick and she buried it with her left foot. VanDee’s goal was the game winner.
