Your Cortland County weather forecast for Wednesday, March 31, 2021:

A strong cold front will bring major changes to our weather today.

Rain showers will move through the area off and on throughout the day today. The best chance for dry conditions will be early this morning before the main area of rain arrives.

Temperatures will reach the mid 50s during the early to mid afternoon just ahead of the cold front. Once the front moves through, a rapid drop to the low 40s and upper 30s is expected.

Winds will be from the south and southwest ahead of the front, blowing at around 10 mph. Gusts will be around 20-25 mph ahead of the front.

Behind the front, winds will turn to the northwest and north. Initially, speeds will drop to near 5 mph, but overnight, they will increase again to 10 mph.

By midnight, temperatures will be near the freezing mark. At the same time, low pressure will develop along the front to our southeast. Precipitation will increase in coverage and intensity, falling as snow.

By Thursday morning, a few inches may be on the ground with more to come.

Thursday: Steady morning snow tapering to flurries. Storm total accumulations of 4-8 inches with locally higher amounts in higher elevations. Morning lows in the upper 20s. Afternoon highs near 30.

Friday: A few early clouds and flurries, then increasing sun. Morning lows in the upper teens. Afternoon highs near 30.

Saturday: A mix of sun and clouds. Morning lows in the upper teens. Afternoon highs in the mid 40s.

Sunday: A few early showers. Then, clouds and a little late sun. Morning lows in the low 30s. Afternoon highs in the mid 40s.
