Cortland Varsity Girls Volleyball Defeats Auburn in Four Sets 

The Cortland Purple Tigers improved to a 4-1 overall record after defeating Auburn in four sets at home.

Both teams shared the first two sets, with Cortland winning the opening set 25-14 and Auburn coming back to win the second set 18-25. 

The Tigers would go on to win a close third set by four points, and then close out the day with a 25-11 win in the fourth. 

“Today was a great opportunity to get everyone some playing time,” said Cortland Head Coach Cheri Olson. “After losing the second set I completely changed the lineup. I was really proud of that second lineup for going in and taking control of the match.”

“We continue to be very solid with passing,” added Coach Olson. “Serving was really good today as well.”

The Tigers were led by Julia Guest (7 kills, 4 aces & 3 point blocks), Gabriella State (11 assists), Kristin Rowland (15 digs), and Alex Gier (5 kills & 3 point blocks). 

Auburn was led by Kirsten Casterline (20 assists) and Gabrielle Lupo (7 kills).

Cortland will now look forward to improving their three game winning streak on Monday, April 5th at home Oswego. The game will start at 6:30pm.
