Cortlandville Fire Department rescues three dogs from morning house fire

At 8:22am the Cortlandville Fire Department was alerted for a reported house fire at 4465 Rte. 41, just outside the Village of McGraw. When Cortlandville Firefighters arrived they discovered heavy smoke coming from the chimney, and heavy smoke inside the residence.

Cortlandville firefighters forced entry into the home and discovered active fire in the basement. Firefighters deployed two hoselines into the home while searching for any potential occupants in the home. Firefighters we able to rescue three dogs and provided oxygen therapy by way of pet oxygen masks that were graciously donated in 2018 by Underground Fence of the Finger Lakes.

No residents were home at the time of the fire. The three dogs were turned over to the home owners and will be receiving follow up treatment.

The Cortlandville Fire Department was assisted on scene by the McGraw and Homer Fire Departments, Cortland County Sheriff's Office and Cortland County SPCA, Cortland County Fire Coordinators Office and New York State of Fire Prevention and Control is investigating the cause of the fire. All personnel were clear of the scene by 9:48am.
