Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Wednesday's events:
Varsity Track & Field: Homer vs. CBA
The Homer Trojans competed against CBA (Christian Brothers Academy) Wednesday evening.The Boy’s team won 87-27 while the Girl’s team won 79-43.
Here are some highlights of both the boy’s team and the girl’s team:
Homer Boys
- Gabe O’Donnell came in 1st in the 110 meter hurdles, 400 meter hurdles, and the high jump event. His 110 hurdle time of 0:22.2 was a personal best.
- Tommy Mahunik placed 1st in the 200 meter dash and the 400 meter dash. Both times are personal bests and has now qualified him for Sectionals. (200 meter: 0:24.3 ) & (400 meter: 0:55.4).
- Ethan Lowell placed first in the triple jump event and the 3,200 meter race.
- Cooper VanDee won the discus event and placed second in the 400 meter dash. His discus throw was a personal best at 75’5’’.
- Jonah Campos won the shot put with a personal best throw of 34’4.75”.
- Ethan Lowell, Tommy Mahunik, Cooper VanDee, and Jed Swayze won the 4 x 800 meter relay.
- David Morse, Gabe O’Donnell, Andrew Lynch, and Gabe Austin won the 4 x 100 meter relay .
- Tommy Mahunik, Cooper VanDee, Jed Swayze, and Ethan Lowell won the 4 x 400 meter relay.
- Andrew Lynch placed 2nd in both the 100 meter dash and the discus event. He also placed 3rd in the shot put event. All three performances were personal bests. (100 meter: 0:12.6), (Discus: 74’11.5”) & (Shot put: 27’5”).
- Jed Swayze placed 2nd in the 800 meter race and the 1,600 race. Both times qualify him for Sectionals. (800 meter: 2:14.4) & (5:02.6).
- Alden Lowell placed 2nd in the long jump and the triple jump events.
- David Morse placed 2nd in the 200 meter dash and 3rd in the 100 meter dash. His 200 meter time of 0:25.6 was a personal best.
- Damian Brown placed 3rd in the 1,600 meter race.
Homer Girls
- Jane Gugerty came in 1st in the 100 meter hurdles, 400 meter hurdles, and the triple jump event. Her 400 meter hurdle time of 74.7 qualifies her for Sectionals.
- Hannah McMasters placed 1st in the shot put and discus events. Both performances qualify her for Sectionals. (Shot put: 31’11”) & (Discus: 79’6.5”).
- Camdyn Cole won 1st place in the 100 meter dash and the high jump event.
- Morgan Robideau came in 1st in the long jump event with a personal best jump of 12’5.5”.
- Becky Jones (SB), Emma Rahner, Maggie Mahunik, and Emma Anderson (SB) won the 4x800 meter relay.
- Eddie Russo, Julie McGory, Jane Gugerty, and Camdyn Cole won the 4 x100 relay.
- Eddie Russo placed 2nd in both the triple jump and the 200 meter dash. She also came in 3rd in the 100 meter dash. Her 100 meter and 200 meter times were season bests. (100 meter: 0:14.2) & (200 meter: 0:30.5).
- Taylor Chisholm placed 2nd in the shot put and the 100 meter hurdles. She also came in 3rd third in the 200 meter dash. Her 100 meter hurdle time of 0:22.3 and shot put throw of 19’1.75” were personal bests.
- Morgan Simmons placed 2nd in the discus and the long jump event. She also came in 3rd in the 100 meter hurdles. Her discus throw of 44’9.5” was a personal best.
- Emma Rahner placed 2nd in the 1,500 meter race and 3rd in the shot put event.
- Emma Anderson placed 2nd in the 400 meter hurdles with a season best time of 78.8.
- Paige Simmons placed 3rd in the discus event with a personal best throw of 42’11”.
Varsity Track & Field: Cortland vs. Fowler
The Cortland Purple Tigers faced off against Fowler Wednesday evening. The boy’s team lost 41-86, while the girl’s team won 57-48.
Here are some highlights from the meet:
Cortland Boys
- Jack Waldbauer came in 2nd in the 110 meter hurdles.
- John Ryan placed 3rd in both the 110 meter hurdles and the 400 meter hurdles.
- Jared Valentin won 1st place in both the 800 meter and 1,600 meter race.
- David Kelchner came in 3rd in the 400 meter dash.
- Dylan Slater came in 3rd in the 800 meter race.
- Jack Phelan placed 2nd in the 200 meter dash.
- Joseph Cataldo won 1st place in the 3,200 meter race.
- Duncan Harbin won 1st place in the shot put event. He also came in 2nd in the discus event.
- Nathan West came in 3rd in both the shot put and discus events.
- Dennis Topchiy placed 3rd in the triple jump event.
Cortland Girls
- Campbell Bush won 1st place in the 100 meter hurdles. She also came in 2nd in the 200 meter dash.
- Sarah Williams came in 2nd in the 100 meter hurdles.
- Malana Booker won 1st place in the 100 meter dash, the long jump, and the high jump.
- Ella Quick came in 1st in the 400 meter dash.
- Chaenaya Underwood placed 2nd in the 400 meter dash.
- Rileigh Madden came in 2nd in the long jump event.
- Ava Chevalier placed 3rd in the long jump event.
- Celeste Perkins won 1st place in the triple jump event.
- Courtney Purves came in 2nd in the triple jump event
- Hannah Guernsey placed 3rd in the triple jump event.
- Cortland’s 4x100 relay team (Campbell Bush, Celeste Perkins, Rileigh Madden, and Malana Booker) won 1st place.
Marathon Varsity Boys Golf vs. Lansing
The Marathon Olympians suffered an unfortunate loss against Lansing with a score of 234-182. (Reminder: lowest score in golf wins). With this result, the Olympians are now 2-2 on the season.
