Homer Varsity Softball: Mudville Tournament Results (May 15th)

The Homer Lady Trojans competed in the Mudville Tournament on Saturday, May 15th. They played their first game against South Lewis and their second game against Waverly.

Homer vs. South Lewis

The Trojans defeated South Lewis 7-6.

It all came down to the last inning of the game. With South Lewis filling up all three bases, Homer’s Isabelle Read struck out South Lewis’ fourth batter for a first out.

South Lewis then scored after Kendra Marra hit a single. However, IIsabelle Read responded by striking out the next batter for a second out.

With all bases still loaded and with two outs, South Lewis’ Ameila Hoffman hit a long grounder to center field. This allowed South Lewis’ third base runner to score; but Homer’s Lillian Luety quickly fielded the ball and threw it to Catherine Apker, who then threw it to home base for Cecelia Rappleyea to tag out the tying run for the last out to end the game.

Catherine Apker led the Trojans offensively with 2 runs and an RBI. Following Apker were Alexis Small (1 run & 1 RIB), Sara Cargen (1 run & 1 RBI), Cecelia Rappleyea (1 run), Isabelle Read (1 run), Lillian Luety (1 run), and Morgan Brown (1 RIB).

Isabelle Read threw a total of 3 strikeouts in the game.

Homer vs. Waverly

The game against Waverly turned out to be a tougher one, as the Trojans lost 2-17.

“Waverly had some strong hitters who found the gaps, as they had 14 hits in 4 innings,” said Homer Head Coach Cris Colasurdo. “We struggled offensively, and even though we had six hits, we didn't have the timely hits when we had runners in scoring position.”

Abigail Villnave and Morgan Brown scored the only 2 runs for the Trojans in the game.

Cecelia Rappleyea threw a total of 6 strikeouts from the mound.
