Worker dies after found in pond in town of Scott

A 21-year-old male worker died after being found in a pond near a property in the town of Scott in Cortland County Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday at 9:43 a.m., officers with the Cortland County Sheriff’s office received a call for a man who wasn’t breathing after his work crew pulled him from the body of water.

The work crew performed CPR in an attempt to revive the unresponsive man, deputies said. Emergency responders transported the male to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Details on how the man ended up in the pond have yet to be determined. The man’s identity has not been released, however, deputies noted that he was not a Cortland County resident.

The investigation is ongoing, deputies added, and anyone with information on the investigation is asked to contact Sgt. John Gallagher at 607-758-5562.

Deputies were assisted by Homer Fire Department, the New York State Police, TLC Ambulance and the Cortland County Coroner’s Office.
