Cortland County Sheriff’s Office: Man Dies After Fatal Crash

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motorcycle vs. car motor vehicle crash on New York Route 13 near the intersection of Bennie Road, Town of Cortlandville, with injuries on June 21st, 2021.

The motorcycle was a 2014 EBR 1190RX and was operated by Nathan M. Newton, age 39. Newton was traveling north east on NY Route 13 when he drove into the back of another vehicle that was stopped in traffic at a stop light. The vehicle that was rear-ended was occupied by the owner and a passenger. Neither the operator nor passenger were injured. 

The operator of the motorcycle, Newton, was ejected from his motorcycle and sustained severe injuries as a result of the crash. Newton was transported to Upstate University Hospital by Life Net Helicopter. The accident is still under investigation at this time.

However, on June 23rd, 2021, the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office was notified that Mr. Newton had died as a result of the injuries sustained in this crash.

Assisting at the accident scene was the Cortlandville Fire Department, TLC Ambulance, Life Net, Clukey’s Towing, and New York State DOT. A portion of NY RT 13 was closed for a few hours while members of the Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team processed the scene.
