Another hot and steamy day is in store for Cortland County today.

Sunny skies through the morning hours will help temperatures warm quickly from an already mild start. Fair weather clouds will start to bubble up by midday and will continue to grow into the afternoon.

High temperatures should top out around 90 degrees with heat index values in the low to mid 90s.

Unlike yesterday, today a few afternoon showers and storms will pop up. The best chance will come during the latter half of the afternoon. Not all areas will see rain.

Any storms that pop up will have lightning, brief heavy rain, and perhaps some blustery winds. Widespread or significant severe weather is not expected.

Winds will be from the southwest at 5-10 mph. Top gusts will not be as high as in recent days, reaching the 20-25 mph range.

Showers and storms will quickly dissipate this evening, leading to skies turning mostly clear this evening and through the overnight. Temperatures will drop into the 70s, but will remain there though the night.

Thursday: Showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. Morning lows in the upper 60s. Afternoon highs in the low 70s.

Friday: Periods of rain. Morning lows in the mid 60s. Afternoon highs near 70.
