Cortland Weather Outlook: Monday, July 12

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Monday, July 12, 2021:

Central New York is locked back into a stormy, humid pattern in the wake of yesterday’s rainy warm front.

Dewpoints will spend the day hovering around 70 degrees making the air feel heavy and oppressive.

This will be the case even though sunshine will be limited. Clouds will linger through the morning from the warm front, and the afternoon will see new clouds bubble up.

A couple showers will be possible through the mid-morning hours. The late morning and early afternoon will be mainly dry, but mid and late afternoon showers and storms will develop.

These should be scattered, so not all areas will see a storm. Any storm that does form, though, will have the opportunity for some strong winds.

Even more of a threat, however, will be torrential downpours that could lead to localized flash flooding.

Outside of the thunderstorms, winds will primarily be from the south at around 5 mph, but the direction could vary with the front nearby.

Tonight, precipitation will taper off and skies will remain quite cloudy. Areas of fog are also likely, especially in locations that see heavy rain late in the afternoon.

Temperatures will top out in the upper 70s this afternoon, then drop back to near or just under 60 degrees for the evening and overnight.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Tuesday: Sun and clouds with afternoon showers and storms. Morning lows in the upper 60s. Afternoon highs in the low 80s.

Wednesday: Sun and clouds with afternoon showers and storms. Morning lows near 70. Afternoon highs near 80.

Thursday: Sun and clouds. Maybe a stray shower, mostly in the morning. Morning lows in the mid 60s. Afternoon highs in the low 80s.

Friday: Cloudy with rain and some thunder. Morning lows in the upper 60s. Afternoon highs in the upper 70s.
